“For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
2 Peter 1:8
“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.” 2 Peter 1:5-7
God wants you to be a student of the word of God, the man who is erudite in the word would always be more active and productive than the man who is not. Then he says, add to that knowledge, temperance; self control!
In simple terms, control your self, control doesn’t always mean stopping yourself from doing something, it means controlling the decisions you make- your thoughts, words and actions.
Now that you are student of the word and have gained knowledge by studying, use that knowledge as an instrument for your control; because of what you know, control how you think- think like he says you should in Philippians 4:8, control how you talk-talk like he says you should in Ephesians 4:29, control your actions- be filled with the Spirit like he says you should in Ephesians 5:18.
It is definitely not enough to know something, you have to let that knowledge influence you, control you, so much so that you are actively (and even unconsciously) controlled by your knowledge of the word of God, and that is called wisdom- forceful wisdom!
The man who is wise would definitely be more active and produce more results, Jesus said:
“But wisdom is justified of all her children.” Luke 7:35
