Halleluyah!

What an awesome privilege we had to be gloriously elevated by the word of God this Sunday.

Pastor began her sermon by exhorting us on the importance of paying attention while in church and being conscious that God will talk to us as we do so. She reminded us of how God talked to Balaam through a donkey making us understand that God can talk to us through any means hence the need for us to always pay attention especially whenever we are in God’s house.

In introducing the message, Pastor started by reminding us that in life, it is not everything we accept, we are taught to accept some things and refuse some other things even if they are free or popular. She reminded us that the spiritual controls the physical hence the reason for the emphasis in the bible on the supernatural and spiritual aspects of the life of Jesus as against every other thing he did while he walked on the earth, she charged us that in like manner, there are things we ought to accept spiritually and other things we must refuse. Pastor recapped the lessons she shared in the last service of how Jesus refused death while he walked on the earth even though he had many opportunities to die. She reminded us that we are instructed to follow Jesus, and this implies that death would also try to show up in our lives at different times but our response should be to refuse it just like Jesus did.

Pastor read from Romans 5:17;

“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”

The scripture shows us that death reigns in life, just like kings do and it does so without permission, afflicting people who have no plan to be affected by death but the verse goes on to show us that there are those who will reign much more in life, that is, who have more authority than death has ever had, and these are they which receive abundance of grace. Pastor taught us that we are these set of people and according to God’s word, we have the authority and ability to tell death to leave whenever it comes to strike. Pastor brought to our consciousness that death is a being and before anyone dies, the reality is that the spirit being called death has entered that room to take that person and if only there was someone who knew enough to recognize that being, and to chase that being away, the intended victim will not have to die.

Pastor showed us the description of the being called death in Revelation 6:8,

“And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.”

We saw from this verse of the bible that Death rides a pale, that is, a sick horse showing us that sickness is one of the avenues whereby Death moves to accomplish its purposes. By using the word ‘reign’ in Romans 5:17, the word of God shows us that Death has no respect for anyone just as it did not have for Jesus but as those who have received abundance of grace, we must put it in its place, just like Jesus did when it came seeking to drown him in the storm, he responded by rebuking the wind and he reigned in that situation.

The word of God assures us that challenges will come and that death will try to affect us but he also reminds us that we are kings and we can reign much more, situations will come to test our authority but God instructs us to reign. This is similar to the instruction given to Adam in Genesis 1:28, God instructed him to “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth”. By instructing him to subdue the earth and have dominion over every thing, God was preparing him for the rebellion he was bound to encounter. The first Adam failed to reign but when the second Adam, Jesus came and had similar encounters, he cast out the devil and reigned, teaching us what Adam should have done at the beginning.

Pastor concluded by reminding us that the Devil’s only purpose is to destroy but we are bigger than him, we reign not just more than but much more than death reigns, that is, our ability to counter death and reverse its effect is far greater than any ability death has to affect us. She charged us to give no place for sickness or death in our lives and our families and to ensure that we always reign over death as the kings that we are. She taught us to cast out devils whenever we feel anything unnatural in our bodies and to learn to refuse and resist the devil no matter what he throws at us.
