“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”
Matthew 5:14 KJV
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
‘so shine’! Not just shine, but become so bright, your light is noticed- people would have to see it and respond! “that they may see your good works”
The word of God is light:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
The reason he sets you on a hill- on a visible spot- is very clear:
“…it gives light FOR ALL who are in the house.” Matthew 5:15 HCSB
The reason he expects you to ‘so shine’ is also very clear: “THAT they may see your good works.”
And so he asks to shine BEFORE MEN, be in their faces and give them the word- the most excellent fact is realizing that every man requires the light you shine:
“That was the true Light, which lighteth EVERY man that cometh into the world.” John 1:9
So shine on- unashamedly, boldly, always!
