“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;”
1 Timothy 2:1
He continues:
“For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” 1 Timothy 2:2
Pray for the government in your school, city and country, and he directs what the end of your praying should be- that believers would lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honestly, meaning we would function in a society that doesn’t legalize the inhibition of the gospel; where we can preach the gospel freely without the turbulence that comes with being chased down or arrested for doing so.
Guess who wrote this? Paul, a man used to such turbulence, 2 Corinthians 11:23-28, and he makes clear, a society that allows the preaching of the gospel is God’s good and acceptable will (2 Timothy 2:3), why?
“Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:4
God wants ALL men to be saved, not just some and that can happen when the gospel is preached freely and he makes clear that might not happen if we don’t pray for those in authority.
