“I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.”
John 17:4
When you pray, you would be veered off the temptation to choose your will over God’s will, to give into human instincts instead of submitting to God’s word, so Jesus told his disciples:
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation…” Matthew 26:41
He linked their ability to not give in to temptation to their praying, that hasn’t changed. Pray.
Things might happen that could cause you to begin to question God’s purpose for your life and the temptation might arise to choose your own desires, but in prayer you would be strengthened to submit to God’s plan just like Jesus was: Luke 22:41-43
Even when the choice seems like what God would want, like the Apostles desiring to go preach the gospel in Asia and Bithynia:
“…and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia… they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.” Acts 16:6-7
God might have another plan as we see with the Apostles, he wanted them to go to Macedonia: Acts 16:9-10.
Only a person of prayer can be awakened to such leadings of the Spirit:
“I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:” 1 Corinthians 14:18
