“For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.”
Philippians 2:21
Paul, in his recommendation of Timothy and his appraisal of his service, made the statement in the main verse about certain people- Christians- who seek their own things.
That should not be your description.
Jesus said:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
He sets your priorities; knowing fully well the desires of your heart, the challenges you might face even now, he still emphasizes that you seek God’s kingdom, and there is a definite promise that when you do, you would find all of your heart’s desires met in the kingdom of God:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32
To men, seeking your own things first instead of that which is Jesus’ might seem like the best and most reasonable thing to do, but you were called to fellowship with Jesus- the word of God- not with men and their ideologies, and so always, your life must be an expression of the word of God as against the will of men:
“God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:9
