“But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;”
Ephesians 5:3
In Galatians 1:4, he says we were delivered from this ‘present evil world’, and then he goes on to say in 1 John 2:16:
“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
He summed everything in the world into three categories; and none of those categories are good or godly, even though they might not look it, the word of God is telling us everything that comes from the world has one end, to provoke, tempt and persuade men unto lust and pride. He had said:
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15-16
He makes it clear: no man who loves the world and the thing in it has the love of the Father in him, irrespective of the lofty reasons given. The good news is he makes loving the world a choice you can decidedly refrain from, so he tells you don’t love the world because there’s nothing good in it. Set your affections on the things of God and his word.
