“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
Ephesians 5:2
Jesus is such an expression of God’s word, that he lived the word he preached absolutely! He had said:
“Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.” Luke 6:28
And he did just that to those who asked for his death, even though he had done nothing wrong:
“Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do…” Luke 23:34
He showed us that God’s word is not just for talking, it is for doing- you can and you ought to do the word, so his life’s description was that he was a doer of the word, and the he taught the word:
“…Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:” Luke 24:19
“…all that Jesus began both to do and teach” Acts 1:1
And his disciples followed the same pattern, they did and they taught:
“And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.” Mark 6:30
He expects you to follow the same pattern. How easy it is to talk for hours about how selfless one can and should be, but even better he wants you to walk in selflessness, do the word else you would walk in delusion.
