“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
2 Timothy 3:12
He makes it clear your expected disposition in the midst of persecution:
“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;” 2 Timothy 3:14
Continue in what you have learnt, don’t curse, don’t waiver, stay in the word because he will give you the wisdom you require to be saved from every evil plot:
“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15
“And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:18
Look at this:
“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.” 1 Peter 4:12-13
He says expect trials, don’t consider them strange, prepare for them, and it makes it clear what counts as persecution and what doesn’t:
“For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.” 1 Peter 2:19-20
So if you’re berated for doing good in the name of Jesus, it should come as no surprise to you, Jesus already told you it would happened and told you what to do when it does; be like him- respond in love, pray for them, be unperturbed, instead continue in the things you have learned.
