“He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.”
Acts 24:26
Governor Felix could have released Paul, he knew he did nothing wrong but because he wanted to do the Jews a favour, he kept him bound (Acts 24:27) but while in prison, he met with Paul often, for a reason:
“He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him”
He wanted a bribe from Paul before he did the right thing but Paul refrained from what could have been an easy way to leave the chains and shackles behind and escape, but he didn’t because he wasn’t wicked and didn’t want to partake in Felix’s generational consequence:
“A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.” Proverbs 17:23, see also Proverbs 15:27
And even though it would have seem like common sense to do so, it would not have been an action borne out of faith, because Jesus already told him:
“…for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.” Acts 23:11
