“Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 1:13
It matters what you hear. After you’ve heard, he says hold fast what you’ve heard. Don’t just listen and move on to the next thing- write, meditate, talk, respond to what you’ve heard decidedly. Look at this:
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” Proverbs 4:20-21
This tells you that whatever is placed in front of your eyes would find its way to your heart, and that’s good news. It means doing God’s word consistently should not be hard, firstly, because the word of God isn’t burdensome:
“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” 1 John 5:3
Secondly, because when you keep the word in front of your eyes, it enters your heart, and when vocalised would cause to do:
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein…” Joshua 1:8
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13
Invest eternal treasures in your heart, prioritize sound words.
