What an awesome Easter service we had with an explosive teaching from Pastor on the significance of the resurrection of Jesus.
Pastor started by exhorting us from 1 Corinthians 15:21–23,
“For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming”
Pastor taught us that “Christ the first fruits” are those that will be caught up to meet with the Lord at the rapture of the church while “they that are Christ at his coming” are those that will remain and those that will believe in Jesus after the rapture but will have to face the great tribulation before meeting with the Lord at his second coming, she admonished that the best place to be is among the first fruits, charging us to ensure our relations, friends and family are also among the first fruits by carrying them along even as we live our Christian lives evident for all to see such that at rapture, we would be ready to meet the Lord.
Pastor went on to show us the significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus.
“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:3-4
We died with Christ and we were raised with him to an entirely new life.
“For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” Romans 6:5-7
The old man was a servant of sin but in dying with Christ, he died to sin. Pastor illustrated that a man who is truly dead would not be moved by shouts of fire in a building because he can no longer be affected by the effects of the fire, likewise, having being crucified with Christ, we are dead to the world and can no longer be affected by what affects the rest of the world, we have been made free from sin.
“Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him” Romans 6:8-9
We not only died with Christ, we also resurrected with him, now, we have no contract with death because through Jesus, we have fulfilled the death obligation, we came out from death never to die again. Death has dominion over those that have not believed in Jesus, death can show up and take them without their permission either by accident or sickness but for the Christian, death has no dominion over him, instead he reigns in life.
Pastor concluded by showing us how to live in this reality. Romans 6:11 says “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord”. We are instructed to reckon it to be so, that is to count it to be true for us that just as death has no dominion over Jesus, death has no dominion over us.
Pastor read the last scripture for the day,
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” 1 Peter 1:3
The word of God shows us that by the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, we have been born unto a lively hope. Because of his resurrection, death is not the last bus stop for those of us who believe in him. If someone or something is dead, we can expect that person or that situation to come alive never to die again. Knowing this, we keep hope alive and we never give up no matter what happens. Pastor reminded us that Jesus is the beginning and the end, when it seems like we have gotten to the end and there is no way out, we should realize that it is just a new beginning for us. Just as it was not and can never be too late with Jesus, everything in our lives has to take that form, it can never be too late for us.
