The word of God is truly alive and powerful, constantly working in us to bring about needed changes in our lives. Last Sunday, Pastor Kola took us on a study of 2 Peter 1, in doing so, he pointed us to various materials for meditation in the chapter and helped us to better understand the purpose and power of meditation.

We saw in the first verse that we have obtained similar precious faith, he showed us how that this faith we have received is the very faith of God and made us to realise that we can get the same results that Jesus and his Apostles got while they walked the earth, we also saw that we have been given all that we require to live a godly life, all of the love, faith, wisdom, strength, ability and resources we require to live a life that pleases God has been deposited into our spirits, subsequently we saw in the word that we have been called to live a glorious life and have been given promises by which we can partake in the divine nature.

We further saw the instructions given to us to diligently add to our faith; virtue, knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and love with the assurance that if we allow these things dwell in us in increasing measures, we will never fall.

We went on to see Peter recalling his glorious encounter at the Mount of transfiguration, seeing Jesus in his splendor and hearing God’s voice from heaven, inspite of this, the Apostle pointed us to a more sure word of prophecy admonishing us to hold onto the word as unto a light that shines in a dark place until the day dawns and the day star arises in our hearts. Pastor Kola likened this to meditation, at any point where we might seem to be in a dark place, our response should be to find that word that talks about that situation, and knowing that the word of God is more sure than anything else, we ought to pay attention to it and meditate on it until light dawns in our hearts and we know that we have gotten the answer we require. Glory to God!
