“For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”  
1 Corinthians 14:2

You function in the spirit when you speak in tongues; he says when you speak in other tongues no man understands you, how be it something is happening in the spirit, you are active in the spirit, the man who is natural and can only understand things from a natural perspective would not understand you- you aren’t talking to him. God who is spirit, understands you- you are talking to him.
The spiritual controls the physical, everything seen in the physical is just an expression of decisions and conclusions in the spiritual, so where would a wise man spend more time functioning? The realm of the spirit.
While talking in tongues, you might seem not smart, but you are birthing what you want to see physically. When a man is building a skyscraper, he might spend a lot of time digging and perfecting his foundation- the environment might be messy, but that messy environment would enable the creation of the tall and magnificent structure that all would come to admire.
Spend more time speaking in tongues; focus on deciding what happens than accepting anything that happens, talk more to God than to man; pray!
