“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.”
1 Peter 4:7

“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”  1 Peter 4:8
The next verse after the main verse begins with “and”, meaning whatever is written is part of what we should observe as the end of all things draws near.
He said be sober, watch unto prayer AND ABOVE ALL, have fervent love among yourselves- the brethren.
It’s amazing, how he emphasizes the importance of love in these last days; expressing love, choosing not be hardened by the deceitfulness and/or the abundance of sin, instead he says cover the multitude of sins in love.
Jesus during the last periods of his sojourn on the earth admonished his disciples to watch and pray, just as the word of God admonishes us today, and he also prayed and never lost his love for others, that was why even in the midst of an opposing ‘thug’ multitude, he still healed the sick, and on that cross, he looked beyond the evil that was expressed by his detractors and pleaded on their behalf:
“Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do…”  Luke 23:34
He didn’t blame them, he loved them, he was on that cross for them, now he says, have fervent love- let your love be deliberate and passionate for your brethren! If the Spirit of God is working in your life, the love of God would be obvious in your life- how you deal with others.
