“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.”
1 Peter 4:7
He gives two instructions in the main verse; he says be sober and watch unto prayer; this should be your response knowing that the end of all things is at hand.
He says be of sound mind; don’t get lazy or distracted by the businesses of this earth that you lose sight of your participation in the kingdom, irrespective of what you are involved in, have the work of the gospel as your priority, remember, you are not of this world;
“No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” 2 Timothy 2:4
He says don’t get entangled with the affairs of this life; this is how to please the one who chose you to be a soldier in his army. Always remember, your spiritual growth matters and that happens when you let the word of God influence your actions and responses in life, but you grow spiritually for a purpose; to serve in the kingdom, you don’t just grow just for growing sake, you grow so you’d be more responsible and effective in that responsibility:
“For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:” Ephesians 4:12
He perfects (equips) you- causes your spiritual growth- for a reason, so you’d do the work of the ministry and his body will be edified!
Because the end of all things is at hand, be serious and prioritize your work and effectiveness in the kingdom.
