Gloorrraaaayyyyyy!!!!!!!

Thanksgiving service today was awesome beyond description, we were enlightened by the word of God on the power of giving thanks and on the right way and right attitude to have in doing so. Pastor started by showing us from the word of God that thanksgiving brings miracles.

She read from Matthew 13:12;

“For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.”

The man who has something will be given more and he will have more in abundance but the one who does not have will have what he has taken away from him, in reality, the latter had something but because he does not recognize that he does, what he has is taken away and he loses it. Pastor illustrated this with the story of a person who loses his job and focusing only on that begins to tell everyone he has lost everything, by refusing to recognize that he still has something, he begins to lose every other thing he has, his properties and may even lose his life. Pastor showed us that Jesus was referring to knowledge in this passage as the previous verse indicates; the one who believes he knows something will gain more knowledge while the one who thinks he knows nothing will have what he knows taken away. She charged us to never talk like someone who knows nothing of the word as that would determine our experience in understanding the word, she admonished us to acknowledge what we know and be open to know even more.

Pastor led us to Luke 19:24-26 where Jesus made the same statement with reference to money this time proving that this principle applies not just to knowledge but to resources, the one who had ten pounds received an extra pound and while some complained that he already had ten pounds, the Lord responded by saying he that has will receive more. We see God’s desire for us, he expects us to get bigger and bigger and there is no limit to how much he desires to bless us.

Pastor explained that this is how miracles happen when we give thanks, the one who had and the one who did not have were the same in reality, they both had something, however, the one who recognized that he had something and was full of thanksgiving had more added to him while the other one lost what he had because he did not recognize that he had it. Pastor showed us that the only thing that needed to change was the way he thought, the moment he realizes that he actually has something, even if all he has is his life and gives thanks for it, more will be given to him. Pastor reminded us that he that is faithful in that which is least is faithful in much therefore he that is thankful for that which is least is thankful for much and so we must learn to be thankful.

Pastor went on to teach us never to compare ourselves with someone else because we are not all the same and we have different paths in life, she charged us not to compare ourselves with others who we think are doing better or even those who we consider to be in a lesser position than we are in. She reminded us that it is what God called us to do on the earth that would matter in heaven and instructed us never to belittle people no matter their position because God may have put them there for a reason.

Pastor showed us another important message as seen in John 21:18-22, Jesus had described to Peter how he would die after which Peter curiously asked him what would happen to John. Jesus responding said to him;

If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. John 21:22

Jesus here was letting Peter know that how John would end up was not his business, instead, he redirected his attention to following him. Jesus’ response to Peter is his message to anyone who compares himself with another person, he wants our focus to be following him and not being concerned about how others are living their lives or would end up, he wants us to pay more attention to our walk with him rather than looking for faults and errors in others.

Pastor concluded by reminding us that when God made us, he made us alone and that everyone will stand alone before God. God has a unique plan for every individual and as is in a race, every man has his own path, no one wins by running in another’s path, similarly, trying to follow God’s plan for another person will only end in regret, that someone else is succeeding does not mean you are failing and that someone else is failing does not mean you are succeeding, all you need to do is to recognize what God is doing in your life and give him thanks for it, in doing so, more will be added.
