Praise the Lord! It’s a glorious new month and August is our month of Thanksgiving as declared by our highly esteemed Pastor Ebi, Pastor charged us on the need to thank God for revelation and gave us insight into why we must prioritise revelation over everything else, she pointed us to how that in the epistles which were written after Jesus had died, was buried and had resurrected, the focus in prayer was not on material things but on the revelation of who we are and what belongs to us and rightly so because God having not spared his son for our sake as we are told in Romans 8:32, he also freely gave us all things with him. With the use of several illustrations, Pastor helped us to come to the understanding that having been freely given all things, it would be wrong to struggle to get these same things, all we need is a revelation of what has been given to us and it becomes easier to walk in the reality of what is already ours. Pastor further taught us to thank God because he takes us seriously, including our wants and prayer requests, we read of the prophet Daniel who having a desire, fasted for twenty one days after which an angel of God appeared to him bearing an answer to his request, the angel specifically referred to him as one greatly beloved and announced that from the day he set his mind to seek the face of God, the answer had been sent, we saw in Ephesians 1:3 the word talking about us this time informs us that we have been accepted in the beloved, indeed, God takes us seriously and once we set our heart to pray about anything, we can be confident and concious that he has begun to do something about it, Pastor reminded us of the words of Jesus in John 16:26 where he said we would not need to ask him to pray to the Father for us because the Father loves us and wants to hear us bring our requests to him directly. We also learnt to thank God for the revelation that we are protected, we saw in 2 Kings 6, how the King of Syria sent an host of armies to capture the prophet Elisha and they surrounded the city by night, when Elisha’s servant saw them in the morning and was alarmed, Elisha simply asked God to open his eyes to see the chariots of fire surrounding them for their protection, as children of God, we have more than angels or chariots of fire, God himself has promised to never leave us nor forsake us, that is our assurance of protection irrespective of any sudden crisis or occurence. Pastor rounded up the message by teaching us to thank God for favour, we are those who have been delivered from the strivings of the people, the hustles and the bustles of this world and have been set as the head, people who do not know us have been positioned to favour us, that is the promise of God for us in the word (Psalm 18:43) What an awesome service it was, truly, there is so much to thank God for and being concious of this, we abound in thanksgiving to the glory of God.
