“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Matthew 16:18

You are a member of the body of Christ- his church:
“Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” 1 Corinthians 12:27
“…his body’s sake, which is the church:” Colossians 1:24
And Jesus said he is building you up on the rock- and from Matthew 7:24-25, he expects you to remain unperturbed by challenges but to be aware that challenges would come:
“Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come…” Luke 17:1
“Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come…” Matthew 18:7
To ensure you remain a victor, he builds you on the rock- he gives you his word and expects you to do his word, not only by instructing you, he also remains at work in you:
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13
Desiring and doing God’s word is for your own benefit so you don’t live a life where all efforts eventually become nothing in the face of heated challenges:
“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:27
