“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.”
1 Corinthians 14:4

The word of God shows exhaustively that you edify, build yourself up when you speak in other tongues. He also shows that in that prayer, you keep yourself in the love of God:
“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” Jude 1:20-21
The Bible says:
“(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)” 2 Corinthians 5:7
And
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
This means when you study God’s word, you ought to walk by the word through faith, you insist on the word of God as the sole content of your experience in life, and remain unmoved in that position, and one way to ensure that you are steadfastly resolute is by speaking in tongues- you build on your most holy faith. So no matter the temptations to respond in like manner to someone who’s treated you poorly, because God’s word tells you to be kind, and the word of God must be the sole content of your expression; you walk in love, keeping yourself in the love of God, and it is easy for you to do so, because you have built on your faith.
