“As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:” 1 Peter 1:14
The word of God tells us:
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2
He speaks to us differently- he didn’t say, try not to show who you are but pretend; he tells us not to be conformed to the world, meaning immediately we got born again, in reality, we became separated from the world – we are not the same with those in the world, so he tells us not to be conformed; don’t talk or act like them.
If he tells us not to be conformed; it means there would be an abundance of opportunity for conformation- we would see and hear the same thing those in the world hear uncontrollably, but we have the ability to control how we respond to those information.
He tells us when we are pressed to be conformed to the world- to begin to doubt, fear and respond like the world, we have another option- we can transform! We can renew our minds.
The word transform can also be rendered metamorphose, it means instead of drowning with everyone because the only information we have accepted in our minds is that we can’t swim, we can metamorphose and begin to walk on water! He has called us to a higher life.
