“But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.”
1 Timothy 5:6

Jesus said:
“…for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.” Luke 16:15
And the Bible makes clear the sum of all the expressions of the world:
“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” 1 John 2:16
The desire to accomplish something for the purpose of boasting, comparison and satisfying one’s desire— God despises all of that; Jesus calls it an abomination.
Any man who lives his life just to prove to the world that he is something would eventually lose that which he so desired and nurtured:
“He that loveth his life shall lose it…” John 12:25
The Bible tells us Jesus came to deliver us from such myopic, base and unfulfilling ambitions:
“And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” 2 Corinthians 5:15
Now we have someone greater to live for not just ourselves because at the end of the day, man’s reward to himself is never good enough.
