“But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.”
1 Timothy 5:6
The main verse brings to mind what Jesus repeatedly said- and his wasn’t just directed to widows:
“He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.” John 12:25
How can people be dead but alive? It means they are just existing, they have not found the essence and reason for their being on the earth and it is clear that God didn’t put any man on this earth to live for himself.
He didn’t expect the constant contemplation of any man to be how to please himself, in-fact Jesus said:
“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” Matthew 6:25
And that was an instruction! There’s a more lofty reason for your being here and it isn’t using your life just to please yourself and satisfy some endless ever increasingly intense craving:
“But the widow who uses her life to please herself is really dead while she is still living.” 1 Timothy 5:6
