“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:18
Jesus said:
“Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.” John 6:27
He said don’t toil for temporal things, instead, wisely invest in eternal verities, he had said that his meat was to do the will of the Father:
“Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” John 4:34
And God’s word reveals to us God’s will; so he was telling the Jews to labour, invest in God’s word. The reason why the Apostle said he didn’t look at that which was seen was solely because everything that could be seen was temporal; they would change, meanwhile that which cannot be seen cannot be changed- because man cannot influence that which he cannot see.
The word of God being that which is unseen, is in himself a change agent:
“Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” Jeremiah 23:29
Instead of spending time perusing other people’s lives or earthly things; invest your life in God’s word, so when the instability in the world arises, you would remain unmoved.
