Glory to God! It’s our month of the Holy Ghost and last Sunday’s message was an exposé on one of the things that happened when we received the Holy Ghost.

Pastor began by addressing the erroneous mindset some Christians have about being powerless people with a powerful God, she showed us that God’s intention is for his children to be powerful and he made this possible by giving us his Holy Spirit;

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

When we received the Holy Ghost, we received power and God wants us to be conscious of this, he wants us to have the same conciousness that Jesus had while he was on the earth, whenever there was an issue and he was called upon, he always responded with the consciousness that he could cause a change because he knew he had the ability to do so.

Pastor reminded us of the things that happened when the Spirit of God came upon men in the old testament, they received power and were able to do extraordinary things as a result, she recalled how David killed Goliath after he was anointed and how, having died, Elisha’s bones raised a man from the dead when they came in contact, as a result of the residue of the Spirit in his bones, Pastor taught us that having received the Holy Spirit to live in us permanently, we now have power and this means we can cause changes in situations around us, most especially in our lives, we can change anything we wish to, from the way we think, to the way we talk or even how we respond to situations.

Pastor went on to teach us how to specifically bring about desired changes in our lives, we saw that throughout the new testament, all those who received the Holy Ghost received the ability to speak in tongues and since Jesus had said we would receive the ability to cause changes when we receive the Holy Spirit, this proves that speaking in tongues is the tool  we need to cause changes in our lives.

Pastor read from 1 Corinthians 14:4;

“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself…”

We saw that the word “edifieth” akin to the word “edifice” means “to build up”, when we speak in tongues, we build up ourselves; causing changes to happen in our lives, the more we speak in tongues, the more we build up ourselves and so our transformation is in our mouth and it is dependent on the frequency with which we speak in tongues, we no longer require any external factors to change our lives, we do so by speaking in tongues.

Pastor further taught us that those who are always fearful can by speaking in tongues build themselves to rise above fear, those who are always talking, saying wrong and unnecessary things and unable to control their tongues can by speaking in tongues often, improve themselves to be able to exercise control over their tongues, and those who constantly find themselves wallowing in worry can bring themselves out of that pit by speaking in tongues consistently.

In the concluding parts of the message, Pastor read from Jude 1:20;

“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost”

Speaking in tongues is our God-given tool with which we work with God to build our lives, Pastor charged us to set asides regular times for improving ourselves by speaking in tongues whether we feel like it or not, knowing the many benefits it brings to us.
