Halleluyah! It’s a glorious new month and it’s our month of Love.
Sunday’s service was tagged “First” and during the service, Pastor took us on a journey through the word on the importance of putting first things first.
“And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” Luke 12:13-15
In this scripture, we see God’s response to issues regarding the above scenario, only God can talk this way, he is not going to touch anybody or move mountains over issues related to physical possessions; it may be hard to let go of such things but God wants us to have this mindset, that he can give us something better, he does not want us hung up over physical possessions that mean nothing to him because our possessions are not a reflection of our lives, we own those things and that means we are bigger than them, they should not own us.
Pastor further taught on the parable Jesus gave in Luke 12:16-21, the rich man had a sudden increase and his natural response seemed logical – to build a bigger store for his goods and to sit back and enjoy himself, however, God was displeased with him, God thought he had a wrong response to his increase, he saw his response as a foolish one and he wants us to respond differently when faced with similar increase, God thinks our response to increase should be to think about him first, otherwise, we would be acting foolishly.
“And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on…For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Luke 12:22-31
God has taken upon himself the responsibility of feeding the world, he is amazed that people lose sleep over food, if he can take care of the birds, he is more than willing and able to feed us without our input because we are more important than them, he also says that if he can clothe the flowers of the field, he will do much more for us, his first instruction is that we should stop seeking after those things as the rest of the world does, he instructs us to rather seek the kingdom of God first and all these things will be added to us, when we don’t put God first, he thinks we are acting foolishly.
We see in the word of God that God has his responsibilities and we have our own responsibilities, some of his responsibilities include giving us the resources to do ours but as touching the matter of food to eat and clothes to wear, he says that is completely his responsibility and as long as we put him and his kingdom first, all of that will fall into place.
Pastor rounded up the message by reading from Romans 11:16;
“For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.”
She explained the principle of First; how the first is handled determines what happens with the rest, if you spend the first hours of your day fellowshipping with the Lord in prayer and in the word, the rest of the day would be equally fruitful and productive, we saw in Mark 1:35 how Jesus woke up early in the morning to pray, he applied the principle of First, if our first hour is given to God, the rest of the day will be an expression of what God can do, in making decisions, if the first person we think about concerning the decision is God and his word, we would make the right decision, but when we put others first, it would lead to trouble.
