Glory to God! It’s our Month of Lights.
It was a special time of blessings as we heard the word of God from our Pastor during the Sunday service. As a prelude to the message, Pastor reminded us of the importance of preaching the gospel. She explained how God saw that the old life; the human life was not good enough, it was fit only for destruction and annihilation and he made it possible for us to receive an entirely different kind of life, his own life which is the new life we received in Christ Jesus. She charged us to take the preaching of the gospel very seriously and to take advantage of every opportunity to get those around us aware that there is a new life in Christ they must receive.
Pastor went on to read from Romans 8:17,
“And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together”
We are joint heirs with Christ; we have access to all that Jesus has access to and the implication of this is that we can function just like he does. Pastor showed us that this was his very desire as revealed in John 17:24.
“Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world”
Jesus desired that we be placed in the same position as he is and that we may behold his glory, Pastor taught us that his desire was not just for us to behold his glory but to become the same for to behold is to become as the bible shows us in 1 John 3:2.
In John 14, Jesus told his disciples that he was going to the Father and when the Apostle Philip asked him to show them the Father, Jesus said to him,
“Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father;…the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.” John 14:9-11
Jesus declared that he was one with the Father and that the works he did were proof that he was truly one with the Father. He did not stop there however, he went on to say that we would do the very same works and even greater, prooving that we have been made one with the Father just as he is.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father” John 14:12
Pastor further taught on why there might be a disconnect between the individual Christian’s experience and the experience of being all that the word of of God is. She showed us that though God has made it possible for us to be all that the word of God is, there is a need for desire if we are going to live in that reality, she used an analogy of an experience Jesus had with his disciples to illustrate this. In Matthew 14:28-29, the disciples were in the midst of the sea tossed by the waves and they sighted Jesus walking on the water, Peter requested that Jesus call him forth to walk on water, Jesus did and he walked on water to meet Jesus. When he saw the boisterous winds, he doubted and began to sink, he called out to Jesus who caught him by the hand and they walked back to the boat to meet the other disciples. Throughout that encounter, Jesus did not attempt to call out the other disciples or to convince them to join Peter on the water, they all had the opportunity to do so but it was only Peter who desired to and who responded to the word that walked in that reality.
We can be all that the word of God is but God is not going to force us along that path, In functioning in the supernatural, there is a need for desire and once we are ready, God is ready.
Pastor also used that analogy to show us that we never lose our potential of being the word of God. Though Peter doubted, he did not lose the ability to walk on water, when Jesus rescued him, he got out and could walk on water again. When we start taking steps along the path of being all that the word of God is, if we make a mistake, God props us up and sets us on the path again.
The moment we begin to desire to grow spiritually, we would because God will always meet us at the point of our desire. We are heirs of God, we have all of his authority, abilities and resources at our disposal and he wants us to walk in that reality.
