What a joy it is to be blessed by the word of God everytime we gather together! This Sunday, we looked into some things that angels are recorded to have said in the bible and learnt some cogent truths from these sayings.

Pastor took some time to emphasize the importance of the word of God over any vision or angelic appearance,

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8

Pastor made us understand that a word from an angel cannot always be guaranteed to be from God, any vision or angelic appearance must be in line with the word of God before it can be accepted as truth, she charged us to know the word of God and not be easily swayed by the visions of other people.

Pastor moved from making that clarification to showing us some of the things angels said beginning at the birth of Jesus;

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:10-14

The birth of Jesus was announced as the birth of a saviour, bringing joy, peace and good will toward men; Jesus saved us from hell and from every form of evil, this is something to be joyful about, he also brought eternal life, made us new creatures and now he lives in us, the implication of this is that we experience and manifest God’s peace, goodness and kindness all the days of our lives.

We went on to look at some things angels said after the ressurrection of Jesus

“And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Luke 24:4-6

We saw that the angel reminded the women who first came to his grave of what Jesus had told them about his death and ressurection before it happened prooving that spirits remind people of things, we learnt that demons can continually remind people of their past sins and wrongdoing in order to cripple them and make them ineffective, we learnt to rebuke such thoughts when they come and pay no attention to them.

We also saw that angels listen to and respond to words, the angels heard the words of Jesus concerning his imminent death and did not intervene to avoid it because Jesus said he would have to die, they also heard him speak of his resurrection on the third day and knew they had to play their part, they showed up at the right time and rolled the stone away, when we speak, angels hear us and respond according to our words, Pastor charged us to be consistent in our speech knowing that our words are heard by angels and they only respond to what we say and stand by.

Pastor showed us some other things Jesus said with regard to angels;

“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 10:32-33

“Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38

“Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.” Luke 12:8-9

Peter had heard these words from Jesus and so when Jesus foretold his denial, Peter vowed that he would never deny Jesus but would rather die with him, he went on to deny Jesus three times putting himself in a position to be denied by Jesus before the Father and his angels, however the story ended differently;

“And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.” Mark 16:5-7

In talking to the women after Jesus had ressurected, the angel referred to Peter for good, taking away the possibility that Jesus had or would deny Peter before them and the Father, Pastor reminded us that Peter loved Jesus and despite his shortcoming which was out of fear, Jesus loved him and love covers a multitude of sins, Pastor inferred from here that a growing christian could make certain decisions not to be found doing certain things and eventually find himself doing what he boasted against just like Peter, if such happens, the answer is not to give up and continue on that path, we must always remember the love of Jesus, he would never leave us nor forsake us, as long as we are still on this earth, there is remission and forgiveness of sins.
