“That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;”
Colossians 1:10

God expects you to be fruitful, and that cannot be overemphasized:
“He cares for the branches connected to me by lifting and propping up the fruitless branches[a] and pruning[b] every fruitful branch to yield a greater harvest.” John 15:2, TPT
“For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:” Hebrews 6:7
And he wants you to be fruitful in every good work; every work that you are involved in, he expects results. This means one expression of your living on the earth doesn’t have to suffer for another to be productive; you can be an excellent student in the University, a meticulous individual and so full of faith and the holy Ghost. Yes, you can!
This is the reason for the investment of the word of God in your spirit, the seed is the word, and that word should produce results in you:
“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.” Luke 8:11
“…whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you…” Colossians 1:5-6
That improvement of your spirit through the investment of God’s word would manifest externally for all to see:
“…make the tree good, and his fruit good…” Matthrw 12:33
You are a different kind of being; the first fruits of his creatures: “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” James 1:18
