As new creations, we were made free from sin and death, that is, we were born free with no relationship with sin and no contract with death. We were not set free, we had no need to be set free because we did nothing wrong, the old man with the history of wrongdoing died with Christ on the cross.
Jesus died so that through his death, he might destroy him that had the power of death, he had a two point agenda, to paralyze the devil, and to deliver those who are subject to bondage. This means people can be subject to bondage through the fear of death – once you get a man to be afraid for his life, he becomes a slave, he can be controlled, he no longer asks questions.
