” Memory Verse
“And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.”
Luke 15:12
Today’s Devotional
It is clear that the reason the older son probably remained slavish was his clear lack of intimacy with his father, and so he wasn’t bold towards him— it was the younger son who asked for their possessions to be split- and he didn’t clarify situations from him, instead when he needed to, he asked a servant:
“And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.” Luke 15:26
And instead of meeting his father to pry further, he chose to isolate himself in anger but just as the father was merciful towards the prodigal son, he was kind enough to go out and explain and comfort the older son:
“And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.” Luke 15:28
Your fellowship with God through his word is so important, as you spend more time with him, you would walk in boldness and delight, the other option would be to treat him as a far away idol who is either always angry at you or you’re always angry at.
“If you are in me at all times, and my words are in you, then anything for which you make a request will be done for you.” John 15:7, BBE
