Today’s Devotional
Jesus asked:
“How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?” John 5:44
He makes clear that people who are too consumed by how people think of them and go over and beyond to position themselves in such a manner as to amass the praise of men cannot believe God!
Interesting! Even though they might seem to be working for or defending him.
The Bible tells us of the rulers of synagogue in Antioch in Pisidia:
“And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.” Acts 13:42
After Paul was done preaching, they had no problem with his doctrine, infact, he was welcomed the next sabbath, until:
“And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.” Acts 13:44-45
They were repulsed that it seemed Paul and Barnabas had gotten more honour from the people than they had and so they positioned themselves to fight God. Don’t be that way; a man of excellence forgoes the multitude and remains with one- the Lord Jesus: Luke 14:33.
