” Memory Verse
“The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.”
Luke 18:11
Today’s Devotional
What a ministry John the Baptist had, and what was even more impressive was his mindset, hear what he said:
“…A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.” John 3:27
Meaning that every man has his proper gift from God:1 Corinthians 7:7
You have yours, focus on yours and don’t attack or be jealous of others for something you think they have or don’t have, because at the end, a man can receive nothing except it is given him by God!
No wonder when they came to tell him in John 3:26 that Jesus was making more disciples than him and had copied the pattern of his ministry (baptism), he didn’t tell God he was older and better than Jesus and question why that was happening, because in actual fact he wasn’t “older” or better than Jesus, instead he said this:
“Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him…this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:28-30
Instead he compared himself to God and his plan for his life and knew according to God’s plan, it was Jesus who was the bridegroom not him.
