“Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.”
Titus 1:14
Today’s Devotional
In the main verse he tells you what to not pay attention to- Jewish fables! Isn’t it amazing there are people who get intellectually stimulated by their ability to recall Jewish traditions and history from extra biblical sources, yet the word specifically tells us not to pay attention to that!
The word “fable” is from the Greek “muthos” which is popularly rendered as myths or fable, but also means “speech, word, saying, narrative- either true, fable or invention”.
See one of such traditions the Jews had:
“For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.” Mark 7:3 See Jesus’ response: Mark 7:6-9.
Notice, to God, there’s no room for two- either you are taking heed to the truth or unnecessary speech. Choose to pay attention to the word which is your standard.
