” Memory Verse
“And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.”
Luke 15:12
Today’s Devotional
Isn’t it amazing that the father divided his inheritance between the two sons: “and he divided unto THEM his living”? One would think he only gave the younger son his and then kept quiet, but that’s not what happened.
However, only one son took his and used it- albeit poorly.
The other son didn’t, even though all that was left was his, he still continued as though he was a servant in his own inheritance!
“I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.” Ecclesiastes 10:7
How true the latter part of this verse was for the older son- hear him:
“And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:” Luke 15:29
He wanted the father to give him what was already his and so even though he had all resources, he slaved for years for nothing- because the reward he felt he was laboring for was already his!
