” Memory Verse
“Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”
Matthew 23:28
Today’s Devotional
It’s important to note that Jesus brought a new life; and for all who received that new life, rarely did anything change physically in their appearance but within- they had become brand new:
“My dear friends, we are already God's children, though what we will be hasn't yet been seen…” 1 John 3:2, CEV
So true change starts from within, while the outward appearance is important, it should reflect the glory and virtue that is the description of the new you, he tells wives: 1 Peter 3:3-4
And Ofcourse, same instruction applies to all who come in contact with the word that might be too entrenched with physical appearances just like this instruction to youths also applies to the aged: 2 Timothy 2:22
In the main verse, the Pharisees were more interested in how they came across to men- they preferred to look sincere and righteous instead of being sincere and righteous, but we live for God’s pleasure and he, interestingly, looks at the heart:
“…for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
