” Memory Verse
“Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”
Matthew 23:28
Today’s Devotional
Jesus has no problem with the outward appearance of men looking great, but it must be a reflection of what’s inside:
“Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.” Matthew 23:26
The Bible did well to point out the physical characteristics of people God used: Moses, David, even Absalom’s looks were pointed out.
Infact he tells us:
“Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart…” Proverbs 27:9
So looking God, coming across as noble, kind, loving, gracious and right is most excellent but it must be a reflection of who you really are, not a show for the applause and awe of men.
God was concerned about the appearance of the high priests and those who served with him:
“And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty.” Exodus 28:2
But today, he:
“…hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father...” Revelation 1:6
So he does care about how you look, you should also, but it must start with your heart, your mindset and your character.
“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,” 2 Corinthians 6:17
